This museum was fist opened in 1783. At this time it was to be exclusively a gallery dedicated to exhibiting gemstones that had been found by French explorers from all over the planet. However in the early 19th Century it was decided that the museum should also include the history of the area. Quickly the exhibitions grew and took on a local feel, collecting artefacts, documents, artworks and much more to make this the definitive place to go if you want to know about Bordeaux.
