Dominating this tiny little village, Chateau de Chambord is one of the most magnificent castles in this part of the French countryside. The beautiful building has a long and illustrious history beginning in 1509 when Francis I commissioned the building to be constructed. Originally a base for hunting in the forests that surround the house, the building was soon developed into a place of royal opulence and splendour. There are so many beautiful external and internal features to mention, but highlights include the double-helix staircase and the roof terrace.
