There are in fact two clock towers associated with the cathedral building, however in the modern age, the newer of the two attracts the most attention. It is because you are able to climb the long spiral staircase inside to the top of the tower. From this vantage point on a platform at about seventy metres above the town, you get brilliant panoramic views of the surrounding areas. The tower was built in the early 16th Century and is a definite iconic image in the Chartres skyline.
