Although connected closely with the great cathedral, this cloister area has retained certain independence in stature and design. It was constructed in the 16th Century as a place of quiet prayer, rest and relaxation. The beautiful, and a little flamboyant design, has made it a popular attraction within the old city. The series of arches that allow entrance to the cloistered area are in a Gothic style, and although a little corroded by the years, is still a good example of design from the period.
