After the great fire of 1487 in the town, there was the requirement to build a new town hall. This building was one of the most beautiful and impressive in the region and people still flock simply to admire the intricate gilding on the exterior. Today the building is home to a large and treasured collection of paintings by the celebrated artist Maurice Esteve. The contemporary works have been gifted for permanent display.
