Pierre de Mareuil, abbot from 1538 to 1556 was responsible for designing and constructing this most unusual of stone bridges. It is a beautiful piece of architecture and is recognised as being the most splendid of the five bridges that link the ancient village with the outside world. The original purpose of the structure was to link the monks garden on the other side of the river with the abbey. It is a good place to get a nice view of the community.
