As you walk to the north-east of the cathedral in Chartres, you will stumble upon the old city area. There is no finer street to take in if you are interested in history than Rue Chantault. It is lined with houses that were built in medieval times and have hardly been touched by modernity. It is a great way to get some perspective on the age of the whole city and the way that things have changed by strolling through this living museum of architecture.
