This area of Brittany is dominated by the huge fields of menhirs that line some of the outlying areas around Carnac. The reason behind these fields of stones is still not entirely known and remains a little of a local enigma like the stones at Stone Henge in Wiltshire. This museum is dedicated to the history of the area, far beyond where most museums usually stop, going all the way back to the Neolithic times and stopping in the Middle Ages.
