This most flamboyant of Gothic houses is one f the centrepieces of Bourges town centre. It was commissioned and built by a former merchant Jaques Couer, who started from humble beginnings in the town. He rose to great power in the 15th Century and after being knighted was considered to be one of the most influential men in France. He spent many years making sure this house was right in every way and it was finally completed in 1450.
