For generations, the Place de Jaude has been the central place of meeting and trading at the heart of the old town area of Clermont-Ferrand. The beautiful public place, flanked by some of the finest buildings in the city has at the centre an imposing statue of Vercingetorix, created by Bartholdi. The statue depicts the leader of the resistance who opposed the aggressive Roman army led by Julius Cesar. He is still remembered as one of the areas most famous sons.
