This square is situated at the very heart of the old town in Dijon, and has for centuries been one of the most significant places of meeting and trading in the city. The original designs were drawn up and implemented by Jules Hardouin Mansart in 1686. He was a noted architect of his time and had worked on the Palace of Versailles. His attention to detail in every aspect of this great square has solidified it as a social and cultural centre of Dijon.
