The Place de la République is one of the largest squares in the city of Dijon. As with many places of the same name in cities across France, this is the spot where the French Revolution acted out some of the bloodiest scenes. It was within the square that the guillotine was used to kill the many aristocrats that were caught. Now a symbol of the republic that emerged from those dark days, the square is a popular place for locals to gather.
