Pont Avignon

This bridge which crosses the River Rhone connects the ancient part of Avignon with the newer city on the other side of the river. It is one of the iconic images, not only of the city of Avignon, but of the Provence area of France. The 12th Century structure is thought to have been based on a design by a young shepherd who dreamt of an easier way of getting his flock across the river. This structure is a must-see for anyone visiting the ancient city.
