This bridge is one of the most impressive in the area. Commissioned by Napoleon I the bridge, which is over 500 metres long, was completed in 1822. The stone bridge was used as a toll bridge which separated the two sides of Bordeaux, until 1861 when the local government bought the structure, and decided it would be a free crossing point for the people of Bordeaux. The bridge is considered to be one of the most ornate and beautiful in France outside of Paris.
