It is close to this famous old street that the River Sorgue, the second river in the city after the Rhone, enters the old walls and passes through the streets of the old town. This street, which translates as the ‘street of the dryers’, was one of the most important in the city in medieval times, because it was where the power of the river was harnessed. Still today you can cross a selection of small bridges and view the old water wheels that were used to power the mills.
