This Gothic style cathedral is one of the centrepieces of Bayonne. A massive ecclesiastical structure, the building was begun in the 13th Century by an unlikely alliance between the Anglo-Normans. It wasn’t completed until 1451, when the town was completely under French control. That said, you can see clues as to several types of architectural styles a s you walk around the church. The political history of the area is illustrated in several pictures and carvings on the wall.
