Belfort Synagogue

Now a historic monument, protected by the local authorities, interestingly Jews weren’t permitted to live in the city of Belfort before the French Revolution, in fact they were a group that the local establishment were mistrustful of. This beautiful synagogue was built in 1857 and was paid for by about fifty major Jewish families. It is a large building which has been crafted with no expense spared and a great deal of attention to detail.
