The Temple de Janus is situated just outside the old town area of Autun, nearly a kilometre to the north. Set in the middle of a field, the temple is believed to have been built in the 1st Century as a place of worship for the Roman people that lived in the town. It has for a long time been associated with the Roman God Janus, but it has later been found that this is incorrect. Two of the original four walls of the temple still remain.
