The Bargoin Museum, situated near the Jardin Lecoq, is Clermont-Ferrand’s principal non-specialist museum. It displays artefacts from a wide range of historical periods. Particularly notable are the sections that display exhibits from the Gallo-Roman period. These may be of interest to visitors since this area represented a heartland of resistance for Celtic tribes to Julius Caesar’s invasion. The prehistoric collection is also strong. During the winter months the museum mounts temporary and visiting exhibitions on the upper floor.
