Tour de Bar is one of several brilliantly preserved towers in the heart of the old town in Dijon. This rather strange looking four storey building was constructed in the 1360s by Phillip the Bold. The idea of the tower was to preserve and defend the central area of Dijon, and the Duke of Burgundy, were they to fall under attack. Today, the tower is noted as being one of the finest pieces of military and ancient architecture to remain from this time in the region, and is popular with visitors.
