This town has been through a great deal and was flattened almost in its entirety during the conflicts of the First World War and the Second World War and this is why there are almost no old buildings to be seen in the local area. The town hall is the administrative and political centre of the town and often plays hosts to interesting exhibitions that tell you more about the way that the town has been destroyed and rebuilt on several occasions.
