Steeped in religious, political and cultural history, Avignon is without a doubt one of the most famous and important ancient cities in France. It is no wonder that it has such a spectacular town hall, befitting of the position of a city which was once the seat of power of the Popes during the great schism. The town hall is largely a place of administrative business but does on occasion show interesting exhibitions related to the history of the town and her people.
