The Ville Close is the walled city of Concarneau, built on a small island in the port area of the town. It is only about four hundred metres by a hundred metres, and therefore is quite tightly packed with buildings. On the island, which was fortified between the 14th Century and the 17th Century there are a good selection of fashionable shops, bars and restaurants that are very popular with locals and tourists. A small footbridge and ferry connect the island with the rest of the town.
