The town of Fountainebleau has always lived in the shadow of the great chateau on the edge of the community. This is both a metaphorical and literal description of the relationship the town has with the great building. This town hall is insignificant in real terms when put against the chateau, but in another way it is an important part of the firm independence and pride in themselves that the townspeople hold. It is a good stone carved building which commands respect despite the majesty of the chateau.
