This beautiful synagogue is one of the grandest buildings situated by the banks of the river. It was constructed on the site of an old salt granary, that was operational until the mid 19th Century. The building was constructed between 1863 and 1864, and takes its influence from the Palestinian temples. Since it was constructed, the synagogue has been one of the central places of Jewish worship and meeting in the city of Lyon.
