There is a legend in the city of Lyon that this building was founded in 542 by King Childebert and his wife as a place for the poor and the needy to be treated for ailments and illnesses. Statues of the two were built into the first floor facade of the building as reminders of the founders. The building was almost completely rebuilt in the early 17th Century by Jacques Blanc and that represents most of what you will see today when you visit, a fine piece of architecture from an age gone by.
