The building that houses this museum is without a doubt one of the most beautiful and well preserved examples of a Renaissance structure in the city. Built by a spice trader in 1621, it remained as a grand private residence for many centuries before being converted into a museum in 1921. Today, the museum is one of the most visited in the city, charting the history of the settlement from the earliest days to present day. It is filled with paintings, documents and artefacts of interest.
