A chamarier was a person that was responsible for guarding the security of a cathedral in medieval times. This amazing example of secular medieval design is only partly remaining, but would have been the home of the chamarier who looked after the churches in Lyon. It is very unusual to be treated to such amazing preservation in a non-religious buildin,g at the heart of any old city, and visitors are gifted a little slice of what life might have been like for a layman many hundreds of years ago.
