After the French Revolution, there were a tiny amount of royal squares left in the country, this is one of those. A magnificent place, the square has as the centrepiece a marvellous statue of Louis XIV. It is sadly not the original, as that was destroyed in 1691. This new statue was created by a sculptor named Lemot and erected in 1828. The square remains one of the most beautiful and popular places, for locals and tourists, to gather and enjoy city life at the most vibrant.
