It was in 1905 that the mayor of Lyon appointed the eminent architect Tony Garnier to be the official architect for the city of Lyon. Garnier had a great vision for the city, a Utopian paradise that would be as good as self sufficient and would be easy to get around. People would live close together and feel part of a large and expanding community. Unfortunately the budget of the city was much smaller than Garnier’s ideas, but in this area of the city you can see some of the early stages of this development, mainly characterised by several tower blocks and the streets around them.
