Rue du Palais has been one of the most important streets in the history of La Rochelle. It has always been a significant place of wealth and trading, mostly born out of its proximity to the old port and relative safety within the walled city. The street is lined with beautiful 17th and 18th Century homes that once belonged to ship merchants and traders. However, today the street is one of the best shopping streets in the area and has a vast selection of eclectic boutiques to browse through.
