There have been a series of archaeological gigs in the 20th Century which have looked in and around the foundations of this church to try and determine how old it might be. Most studies have suggested that the basis of the structure may well go back as far as the 4th Century and was built by Romans or Gauls. Obviously the majority of the remaining church was built much later than this, but it is a fascinating place to visit to see the signs of a word that existed so many hundreds of years ago.
