Place Castellane is one of the largest and most impressive public squares in the city. It is a place that local people and visitors gather throughout the summer months, enjoying the sunshine and watching the world go by. The centrepiece of the square is the fantastic fountain that towers above the passing cars and offers a life and energy to the square that many others lack. The fountain was a gift to the city from Jules Cantini and was designed by the famous local architect Allar. It is one of the most recognisable monuments in the city.
