Built in 1558 there are very few remaining example of such Renaissance architectural splendour remaining in the town centre of Narbonne. The building takes its name from the Carytids and the splendid southern front is a fine example of the architectural style that was being used in the town at this time. At one point there would have been many more houses like this lining the central areas of Narbonne but most of them were destroyed or modified heavily in the ensuing couple of centuries.
