The Palace of Poitiers began its time as the seat of power of the Counts of Poitou and the Dukes of Aquitaine, but has through its time developed and changed, both architecturally and practically. The original structure is at least a thousand years old, although there have been many changes made to the building, meaning the majority of what one sees today is far more Gothic revival in its style. It went on to become the palace of justice for the city and is still one of the most impressive buildings in Poitiers.
