The Place de la Comédie is one of the oldest and most important squares in the whole of Metz. It was laid out in the 17th Century, and stands on a small island that is separated from the main area of the town by the River Moselle. The square has traditionally been a place of meeting and entertainment, in the shadow of the oldest working theatre in France. Locals and tourists like to gather in this area and watch the many street entertainers, admire the architecture and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a drink or something to eat.
