This beautiful city square is essentially the heart of Montpellier. It derives its name from the first theatres that were built on the flanks of the space in the 18th Century. It is now home to the opera house and still retains several theatres. The square today attracts large crowds of people, shopping, relaxing and enjoying the open pavements, wonderful architecture and first class street entertainers. Lined with great cafes and restaurants, it is the perfect place to stop and watch the world go by.
