Place Montineurf was refurbished relatively recently under a local authority scheme to restore as much of the historic splendour as is possible to the ancient city centre of Poitiers. The result is magnificent, a beautiful square that has a real French feel to it, attracting local people to sit and talk about the matters of the day, and a vast amount of tourists, who in turn sit and watch the goings on of the French people in a tranquil environment.
