First laid out in 1790, Place Royal was originally dedicated to the monarchs of the country. Of course as history would prove, these would not be the people who ruled the land forever. The beautiful large square is one of the central meeting places in the heart of Nantes. It is flanked by amazing examples of the areas architecture, and surrounded by small cafes, bars and restaurants that attract an eclectic crowd of local people and tourists.
