This town is an important administrative centre for the Deux Sevres area of France and therefore has several grand buildings which have been built to house the important institutions that keep the region running. The Prefecture Building is a large and impressive white stone affair that dominates the square on which it stands. Parts of the building are open to the public and it is worth looking inside at the excellent antique furniture and artworks within.
