The Promenade des Anglais took its current name in 1822, when an Englishman Lewis Way decided that he would create a long pathway along the seafront. The name was given in commemoration of the nationality of the man who came up with the idea. The two kilometer walkway is one of the most popular in the city, teaming with locals and tourists throughout the year. The area is popular with walkers, runners and cyclists enjoying the unparalleled views of the sea.
