It is thought that there has been a church on the site of Saint Ayoul Church for over a thousand years, but none of the original 10th Century structure remains today. There were significant building records found dating to the 13th Century, where it is thought a great deal of the interior of the modern church was constructed, however it is known that the external facades were completely rebuilt in the 15th Century, making largely what is seen today.
