This fine cathedral is one of the lasting iconic images of the city. Built in a strange and not particularly fitting style for the area, you could be forgiven for thinking that you have stumbled in an Istanbul street when you see the domes that rise and fall on the roof of the building. The church was fully overhauled in the 19th Century by Abadie, who is the architect responsible for the Sacré Couer in Paris. The internal features of the cathedral include a 17th Century Baroque retable in the main choir area.
