This ancient church has origins as far back as Roman times. It is thought that originally the beautiful building would have been part of a large Roman spa complex that covered a great deal of this area of Metz. The first bricks were probably laid around 380AD and it is possible to spot the original brickwork because of the distinctive red stripes on the structure. Throughout the centuries the church was added to and developed into a women’s abbey and later a church.
