When you visit Orange you cannot help but be stunned by the Triumphant Arch, a piece of architecture that has stood in place, guarding the entrance to the town, for well over two thousand years. Built in the last years of the BC era, the arch is inscribed with a series of military themes that celebrate the might of the Roman Empire and the associated armies. It lists the name of the town as Colonia Firma Julia Secundanorum Arausio, the original name for Orange.
