The Canal du Roubaix was originally built for commercial purposes, to service the needs of the great industrial city and to keep it connected with the Belgians to the north and the rest of France via sea and other waterways. The canal is an interesting path to follow as it takes visitors on a walk through the industrial past of the community as well as leading through some delightful pastoral scenes at times.
