There is a good deal of the beautiful city walls still standing, one of the first thing any visitor will notice when they visit this small winemaking town. The walls have a history that dates back well over five hundred years and have been restored in places to try and capture the essence of the great structure. They were built to protect the small community from attack during the turbulent land wars of the middle ages.
