This church is quite unusual in the sense that the final architectural plans were come up with by means of a competition. It was 1843 when the people of the neighbourhood decided on the final design, an exciting neo-Gothic structure which would really stand out amongst the lower rise houses and places of business that surround it. The church was surrounded by controversy for many decades as the building work took too long and cost too much, but eventually this interesting church emerged.
