Quimper’s amazing cathedral was begun in 1239 and took several hundred years to complete, the final touches being added to the main structure in 1515, although the spires weren’t added until the mid 19th Century. There is a strong Breton influence in the style of the building and several of the major carvings have been dedicated to kings of Brittany. The church is well worth a visit, especially to take part in the elaborate once monthly mass.
