The castle within the walls is situated at the heart of the village and was the main residence of the most important person who lived in the village at any one time. Not all of the castle remains, but there are still three sides of the main building remaining. However, in 1910, the new town hall was built next to the site, giving no hope of reconstructing the ancient palace which is thought to have had its roots in the 13th Century.
